Armor bonus increases by a max of 1/3 levels. Ranks increase at 1/level.

Note: I'm assuming this is an Armour bonus to AC, because as written it could mean anything, including "Your entire AC is equal to your ranks in this". So I take the most sensible reading.

Level 1: you're wearing like a Chain Shirt that isn't, so no-one gives a shit.
Level 3: you almost have Full Plate that isn't, when other people can afford actual Full Plate. But you can sing and dance in yours. It's still fine.
Level 5: other people have +1 Full Plate, and you, even if you're a caster, or in bear form or whatever, basically have normal Full Plate that you can dance in.

At level six, you're actually equal for the bonus, but you can have a high Dex and all that. Also, you probably can't even afford the stuff yet.

Jump to level 10, my favourite level: other people have Full Plate +2 or 3, for 10-11. You have +13, infinite max Dex, no skill penalty, and you're probably also a giant monster with a nice Dex and huge Natural Armour and you don't usually get to wear that Full Plate anyway.

Beyond here it just gets more problematic.

Oh, yeah in addition to AC. I have it as DR 2/adamantine for light, 4 for medium, 6 for heavy. Adamantine boosts it by the usual amount and changes it to typeless DR. So adamantine fullplate gets you DR 9/-, which is pretty decent for our campaigns.

The Defense Bonus stuff gives you better AC, but armour gives you better soak with similar overall AC. Or something. Plus I have a shitload of armour mods in this.
